Apple To Give Away Free Cases

Posted on July 16, 2010

Apple finally owned up to the problems of the iPhone 4 today at a press conference in Cupertino, California. They will give all iPhone 4 users a free case of their choice. Because they can’t manufacture their own bumpers fast enough, they are relying on third-party case manufacturers to keep the supply coming. This is what they said, layed out in simple point form.

  • We will give you a free case
  • We can’t make enough bumpers
  • We will offer a choice of cases
  • Apply on the Apple website later this week

This solution comes after 22 days of Apple engineers “working their butts off,” according to Steve, with “physics” blamed at the main culprit. Apple claims that you can mimic the “death grip” issue on other phones too, so it’s apparent that they are reluctant to claim that their phone gives the most problems.

“Phones aren’t perfect” says Steve.

He claims that only 0.55% of iPhone 4 users have complained to AppleCare about the antenna, and the iPhone 4 has a mere 1.7% return rate, as opposed to the 6% of the 3GS.

Also, for those early adopters who bought the iPhone bumper before this free deal, you can return the reciept to the Apple store and you will get a full refund, and keep the bumper to boot.
