Pi Day!

Posted on March 15, 2010

Yesterday was pie day! Hooray!!!!!!! All pie lovers rejoice!!!!!!!!

Mmmmm...pie...delicious pie...

Ok, not really… Actually yesterday was Pi day, not pie day. In case you don’t know, Pi is the greek letter/number (π) that represents the ratio of the circumference of a circle to it’s diameter. It is also one of the most mysterious numbers out there– as it literally has no end. it has been calculated to over 1 trillion digits by some of the fastest supercomputers in the world, and it is infinitely bigger than even that.

So, why did we pick this specific day to celebrate this famous number? Well, it was on March 14 (as it is every year). The significance of this date is that if you look at it in number form it reads 3/14. 3.14,if you don’t already know, is the first portion of Pi. In a strange coincidence, March 14th is also Albert Einstein’s birthday.

So, make sure to celebrate Pi day every March to get your full load of geekyness, Pie, and more!

As a side note, make sure to look out for March 14,2015– at 9:26:53. Aka: 3/14/15 92653 or 3.141592653.
