Tip: Clean Out Your Temporary Folder In Windows

Posted on March 4, 2010

Running a slow computer? One of the easiest ways that you can speed it up is to clean out your temporary folder. This folder stores all kinds of tidbits that you acquire through normal daily use. Left unchecked, the temp folder can grow massive (I’ve even seen some in the 2GB+ range) and take up precious disk space while at the same time slowing your computer down.

Cleaning the temp folder is easy– in Windows XP, go to “Start” and then “Run” and type in %temp%. This brings up the temporary folder. Just highlight all the items in the folder and delete them! (Don’t worry, your computer doesn’t need these files anymore, so deleting them won’t hurt)

In Vista in Windows 7, just go to the Start Search bar and type in %temp%, and do the same thing– delete all the files.
