Should You Buy The New iPhone 3G S?

Posted on June 27, 2009

Apple’s iPhone was a huge hit back in 2008. With it’s faster speeds and tons of new features (including the revolutionary App Store) it started to dominate the smart phone market and bring in huge profits for Apple. Lust last week, Friday, June 19 2009, Apple shipped it’s newest line of revolutionary phones, and they call it “iPhone 3G S”.

Now, nobody knows why Apple picked “S” to be in the name of the new iPhones. It might mean Speed, Super, Sleek, Supreme, Sensational or Smashing or a zillion other “s” words, or it could be all of the above.

Yep, all of those words would perfectly describe the new iPhone. Why? What’s so different between this and the last version after all? Well, just read on and see.

  • 2x Faster

Apple is calling this iteration of the iPhone the “Fastest iPhone ever”, and for good reasons too. The new 3G S renders web pages in less than half the time the 3G renders web pages. This is good news for people like me who can’t go anywhere without the good ‘ol web. Also, Apple has improved the performance of every application on the 3G S. Plus, they improved the 3D graphics for an overall better gaming experience. How cool is that?

  • Video editing

If the first two iPhones were good. But they left out some very important features. One of these features is video recording. The iPhone 3G S can shoot high-quality VGA video using it’s 3 megapixel camera. Plus, you don’t have to fire up your computer to edit these videos. Yes, the new 3G S can edit videos right on the phone. Once you’re done editing, you can upload your video to the web with the touch of a button. Pretty cool! As an added bonus, you can rotate the iPhone and shoot in either portrait or landscape mode.

  • Voice Control

Voice control on the 3G S is very much like Microsoft’s SYNC software. It lets you play songs and make calls on your iPhone, all using your voice. Also, the new Voice Control software supports 21 languages. So you should be covered.

  • Cut, Copy, Paste and Undo

If there was anything that the previous iPhones needed more, it was Cut and Paste. Now, it’s here. With the tap of the screen you can copy and paste text, video and images. If you make a mistake, just shake the phone to undo.

  • Internet Tethering

hero-tethering-20090608 This has got to be the best feature of the new iPhone yet. Now, using Bluetooth or USB, you can share your 3G connection with your laptop and surf anywhere that theres 3G coverage. How cool is that?

  • Find your iPhone

If you happen to lose your iPhone, or it gets stolen. Then you can log into your MobileMe account and it will show the approximate location of the phone. You can make it play an alert sound if t happens to be close to you. Or you can make it display a message on the screen with your contact info on it. If all of these fail and you fear that your data is in the wrong hands, you can remotely wipe your iPhone and return it to factory settings.

So, should you buy the new iPhone 3G S? Is it worth the $199? No. I reccomend that you either stick with your current iPhone 3G and just get the 3.0 software update (It includes almost all of these features), or if you are a new iPhone buyer, just pick up the 3G at the reduced price of $99.
