How to Put Videos Onto Your PSP

Posted on March 18, 2009

Sony’s PSP has become a mass-media device that can do all sorts of things like, well, play movies! If you aren’t using features like this, you are probably only using 10% of your PSP’s true power. So, here’s how to put videos on your PSP with ease.

First, find your video and convert it. The PSP is very picky when it comes to file type and how it’s compressed. Get a good video converter like PSP Video 9 and convert the video to MPEG-4 (mp4) at 128kbps AAC. You can tweak the settings if you like but that’s what I use.

Once you have your video compressed, you will need to connect your PSP to your computer via USB and start moving the files. Now, here is where it gets tricky so bear with me.

If you are running under firmware 3.00:

Create a folder in the main folder of the memory stick called “MP_ROOT”.

Then, create a folder in MP_ROOT called 100MNV01

Put your videos in here.

Ok, so that’s if your firmware is below version 3.00. But what if it’s above?

In the main folder of your memory stick, make a folder called VIDEO.

Drag your files in there. It’s that simple.

Ok, so there you have it. A lot of people have been having these problems because most articles that you will find out there are outdated, and don’t include the newer method. No people with the newer firmware are following the old firmware’s instructions.

Anyways, I hope you enjoy your newly videoed PSP 8)
